Picking Yourself Up.
Many of us have experienced a great deal of disappointment in your life.
I have. As a kid, when I was to graduate from Primary school, I was under my school's reputation. Everywhere I went, the name Raffles was held in awe. My previous school was a premier school, a private school that was always known for having the smartest students.
When I took my finals, I expected an aggregate of 260 and higher over 300 because that was the expectation people had of us. I was supposed to get into NUS High School of Maths and Science and then skip Junior College to go to NUS (National University Singapore). Unfortunately, things went bad and I instead only scored 245. You have to understand the 240-249 mark was a dangerous zone because to get into the express stream, where you only study fiur years instead of five, you need at least 250. I was stuck.
But you know, things went well and I made it, miracle as it is, into a great school. I went through a tough period but I got up and salaged what I could.
How about you?
Any tips on getting back on the horse? Any inspirational stories to tell people so we can all be motivated?
How do you keep telling yourself "yes" when the whole world forces you to believe "no"?
I hope this is the right thread. If not, you could delete I guess and sorry for the extra work.

Re: Picking Yourself Up.
A few years ago, I was having what could literally be called the worst time in my life. I had nobody there for me, nothing to hold onto. Nothing. I began to do stupid things to myself and I was convinced that there was nothing else for me anymore. But then I started to realise that I wasn't as alone as I thought - nobody is. So I picked myself right back up and I continue to every single time I get thrown off. Whether it's with the help of my friends, or all by my lonesome.
Re: Picking Yourself Up.
Which one do you think is more productive? Picking yourself up on your own or with people's help?

That cannot be determined because every situation and outcome is different. There are times that helping myself is the only way to go and times when my friends are the only ones who can pull me out of the pit.Heartstrings. wrote: Which one do you think is more productive? Re: Picking Yourself Up.
I used to feel guilty about leaning on people for help, but I don't any more, its what friends are for, right?

Exactly. If you can't count on a friend to lean on, then they're not a very good friend, are they?les amoureux. wrote: its what friends are for, right?
Re: Picking Yourself Up.
i attempt to pick myself up by myself every single time; it's what's led to my bad times.
i never ask for help because i'm scared of what people will think.

I rely on them to be there whenever I need them, and they know that I will do the same.

some like to tell me it's just attention.

Re: Picking Yourself Up.
I don't like asking for help. Pretty much the most I'll do is post on Confessions and hope like mad that someone will ask about it.
