Actor Rob Guest is in a critical condition in a Melbourne hospital after suffering a massive stroke on Tuesday night.
He had been staring in the Melbourne production of Wicked and last performed on the weekend.
His condition is said to be extremely grave.
The British-born performer has enjoyed a long career on the stage.
He was a music star in New Zealand in the 1970s, and later moved to Las Vegas where he worked in the entertainment industry.
For seven years, he played the lead role in the Phantom of the Opera, chalking up over 2,000 performances.
He also starred in Les Miserables.
Guest, 57, relocated to Melbourne from the Gold Coast when he took the role in Wicked.

He was also in Footloose.
I met him.
He came to our school.
I have a photo of him from the news.
This is pretty much devastating.
