(c) Skeleton In The Sky (G)
Written For Michael
This boy was the envy of mankind. He soared high above the heads of humans, just above the clouds. Out of sight. No one could see him, but he didn’t want them to. He didn’t fly, he didn’t have wings. He sort of... made his way from his current position to his destination. It wasn’t teleporting, it was something much better. He could feel the wind blowing against his bones, wearing them down. This didn’t require any type of energy. He just managed to make it to his desired place, and that was the end of it.
He lived in the sky, with another boy, an older one, to guide him to his destination. This older boy knew where to go and he knew how to get there. Because he was simply bone, the skeleton boy has to snuggle up to this, older, warmer boy. They had each other for company, and they could discuss anything and everything. The only time they landed was to pick up bags of happy crackers and go to the odd panic at the disco concert, where the skeleton was told he was loved by the other skeletons. He was popular among these people. He was the smallest and the thinnest. He was inspiration for the others, they yearned and worked to become like him.
The skeleton rarely spoke. On the odd occasion, it was to express his adrisole for the older boy. This paternal figure, who seemed to know everything that the skeleton needed. On the odd stop of the land of the others, the skeleton was stared at by people who were unused to seeing a walking mass of bone. He stood behind the older boy, who managed to shield the skeleton from the abuse and hatred which was thrown by passersby. These people didn’t like the abnormal, which was exactly what the skeleton was. He wouldn’t be around anymore, if it had not been for the older boy.
The older boy needed someone to love, and the skeleton needed someone to be protected by. They held hands, too. This wasn’t a sign of love; the skeleton was only capable of loving other skeletons. It was a sign of dependence. Like a child holds his father’s hand. This skeleton adrisoled the older boy, he who had saved his life many times, and many times to come, the skeleton hoped.
When the skeleton was born, his parents shunned him. They refused to believe this... this... monstrosity was theirs. They couldn’t see the beauty that actually lay inside the bones themselves. He lived the first years of his life hated and mistreated. He was thrown out of the house on a daily basis, and only snuck back in for the world of his blanket. He told himself, if he finds someone who would protect him, he would be out of this place in a heartbeat.
Luckily, the parents didn’t force the skeleton to go to school; they refused to pay for it. So the skeleton didn’t learn much. Only what he could by spying on the streets. Lucky, the skeleton was naturally intelligent, so he didn’t learn anything from the yobs and hicks on the street.
The skeleton finally decided to give up one day. It was too much, living on the streets, being beaten by the local kids, thrown around like he was some poor rag doll. He tried to end it. He found the highest cliff in town, and threw himself off without a second glance.
He was caught. Caught by an amazing flying boy.
He knew he could live peacefully and happily.
He now had someone to shield his bones from being broken.
