'A physical disorder (as a medical term) is often used as a term in contrast to a mental disorder.'

It's a pretty self-explanatory title.

Discuss experiences with them, your thoughts on specific ones, etc.

Oh yeah, and because of that one time I broke my foot, my left foot shall forever me smaller than my right. I broke the foot right next to the growth plate, so I'm kind of screeewed.
And I can't stand on both feet for very long- I usually have to stand on my right a lot. *sucktastic*

Ugh, yeah, Linzy, my back kills me.

My vision is, like, the only thing that's ever been and still is in-tact! whatnow? O_O

Well, when I went to this new doctor after I dislocated my kneecap, the guy was being all nice about it, then he asks me to see my hands. He sees them, and he brought up marfan syndrome. I'm supposed to go somewhere to get it further checked, but haven't yet...

whatnow? O_O (Okay, doesn't it sound like a swamp monster?! I was like loling when he was saying it even though I probably shouldn't have, haha)

He tried not to make it sound scary, but failed.

.______.

That's apparently why I'm so tall. My old 'doctor' NEVER said anything about it.

...Haha, in conclusion, make sure your doctor knows stuff. xD

...Wikipedia makes it sound even scarier than when the guy said it whatnow? O_O

People with Marfan's are typically tall, with long limbs and long thin fingers.

The most serious complication is defects of the heart valves and aorta. It may also affect the lungs, eyes, dural sac surrounding the spinal cord, skeleton and hard palate.

In addition to being a connective protein that forms the structural support for tissues outside the cell, fibrillin-1 binds to another protein, Transforming growth factor beta (TGF-β). TGF-β can cause inflammation. Researchers now believe that the inflammatory effects of TGF-β, at the lungs, heart valves, and aorta, weaken the tissues and cause the features of Marfan syndrome.

I've got this disorder with my hip joints. They're malformed or something like that.
It makes me really flexible, but I can't stand or walk for long without it getting painful...plus it dislocates a lot. It also causes my right leg to be shorter than my left, but not by much. It's not enough to be correctable, but enough to be painful.

So I'm fifteen and already have problems with my hips. LMFAOOO What's next, dentures?

Lulz its true

My dad's seriously dislocated his shoulder something like 9 times now, and probably like 50 or something if you count minor issues with it

I have really, really bad back problems. Itsin my family,

Oh, also, something not a lot of people have heard of: I have amblyopia

It's when the vision in one eye doesnt work. Not like short-sighted or long sighted, though. It's like looking through a fuzzy TV screen.

Imagine a blind person. It's not their lens that doesnt work, in that of someone who needs glasses, it's just that the eye is... well, fucked. Thats what mine is.

It means I'm really clumsy. My brain cant process the combination of good vs dodgy vision, so it only uses the sight from my right eye. This means I have monocular vision, leading to pretty much no depth perception. YAY! AND EXCUSE TO SUCK AT SPORTS! Ahahahaha

People makie cracks about my fringe, but I laugh, because they're just jealous they cant have cool hair without it hindering their vision, and I can [/smug]

Physical Disorders Empty Re: Physical Disorders

Post by bittersweet. Fri 02 Jan 2009, 10:27 am

I also kind of think physical disorders are over-diagnosed, too, though. Or that there should be a line between disorders and like types of people. Idk what I mean.

But I once counted up the disorders my doctor's diagnosed me with, and there were at least a dozen. Like one that said I had extra-lubricated joints in my hands only, and it explains why only the joints in my hands are double-jointed.
I think it's a little ridiculous that every single thing that's out of the ordinary with a person is classed as a disorder.

Not a disorder as such, but I have weak ankles.

Also, one of my eyes is weaker than the other; I went to some sort of eye doctor (wasn't an optometrist, was called something else), and he said it wasn't lazy...I forget what it was called. But apparently I get double-vision whenever I'm tired, daydreaming or upset. It's getting better though.

My knees were the reason I quit volleyball.
I don't want to overlook it, but I think my pains are caused by my emotions. however even if I'm slap-happy, my knees/ back/ shoulders will still be hurting.
I'd hate to say the physical pain goes hand-in-hand with emotions, but I hear that it's true.

Physical Disorders Empty Re: Physical Disorders

Post by gloria- Sat 03 Jan 2009, 3:49 am

i have really terrible eyes (-4.00 in the right eye, -4.25 in the left) so when i'm not wearing my glasses, i'm literally useless unless what i'm looking at is less than a few inches in front of me.

i've recently found problems with my back: my mom has arthritis and ankylosing spondilitis in her back and hips and they think i might be getting one/both of them.

and while they were doing blood tests for the arthritis, they found these antibodies that are an indicator for this liver disease that usually occurs in like 40-50-year-old women. so i'm probably going to get that sometime in the future, which will leave me taking meds every day for the rest of my life.

myopia, -6/7 or something in my eyes.
heart murmur [fucked up heartbeat] from birth, regurgitation [basically, my valves aren't efficient enough so all the blood doesn't get through the chambers], incredibly high inherited risk of fatal heart problems [coronary artery disease, heart disease, etc], suspected epilepsy and my liver is possibly slightly screwed.

-edit- ooh, and high risk of kidney b0rkination. x_x

I have short-sightedness and astigmatism. I got diagnosed with astigmatism in Standard Four, six years ago, but it actually started a year back. I would keep writing on the same line as the paragraph break, you know, when writing essays, and just blamed it on carelessness and told myself off for it. Like, you start off the paragraph with a break, and go to the next line, just I would start writing on the same line, on the break.

I sprained my left ankle pretty badly the same year, and the top of my left foot is slightly larger-looking than my right. lol@chu

I used to have a heart murmur as well as asthma, but have outgrown both. Well, the asthma not completely, but it's a lot better now.

When I was thirteen, I found out that I had an ovarian cyst, and had it removed. I now go for yearly scans to check that I'm all clear. There was a false alarm last year, which scared me quite a bit. >___>

I'm actually due for my next ultrasound sometime this month.

Lol jan would suck if you got pregnant

I have low blood pressure. Just gotta throw that out there. it's the reason for all those confessions where I'm bitching about being stupidly ridiculously dizzy

We actually thought I had asthma when I was a kid, but either it turned out to be nothing or I outgrew it. Althoigh I am pretty sensitive to things + my general tracheal region.

Lol recent entertaining conversation:

"Do you have asthma or something?"
"No, just smoke and that sort of really affect me..."
"Well maybe you DO have it, then?"
"...Dude, he sprayed MACE. OF COURSE I'M CHOKING."

I'm glad you grew out of it. Smoking might've killed you. :/ Esp since people who've recovered don't carry inhalers around with them.
