Re: The H1N1 influenza
i think it's far more than that...the article i posted says 159 deaths in mexico and 1 outside of mexico.the missing piece. wrote:Is it a confirmed case, Jenna?
I was reading the CDC website and it says there's only 60 medically confirmed cases so far.
...Although I was reading that on my phone so it may have just been a completely outdated page.
plus lots more cases.

But, like my mommeh said,
We hardly think about the regular flu and that kills SO many people.
And I can't remember the last time I've had a flu. : )
And you're really good with your hand sanitizer and stuff. P:
You're saaafe.
I just have to worry about going on my grad trip to Springfield Friday... >_<
And yeah Mikey, apparently there are 9 confirmed here? Idk news is stupid. The school with the first kid has closed for now.
Re: The H1N1 influenza
i know notre dame had some students with it according to what i heard this evening.
Re: The H1N1 influenza
It's in my area...
They shut down a couple schools because of it, but I'm not terribly shaking in fear.
Be smart, go to the doctor if you get a flu. It's kind of that simple.

Jenna, other thing, they said it was a suspected case. And that's Rodgers Park, not close to us at all. You have nothing to worry about.
Re: The H1N1 influenza
according to my mum, the swine flu was created in my bedroom
but i have the flu now so i'm kinda worried ._.
and apparently it's been upgraded or whatever to phase 5.

I mainly meant because of the title. The american CDC officially classifies it as a stage 5 pandemic, now.
Re: The H1N1 influenza
Story time:
so yesterday I made a joke about it, and my friend and her dad started yelling at me. I was like wtf it was just a joke.
I love how seriously people are taking this when in all actuality, it's not that hard to cure at all.
This isn't as bad as most pandemic diseases (see: AIDS, MRSA, SARS.)

Re: The H1N1 influenza
Yes, AIDS, MRSA, SARS are "worse".
But Swine Flu is new, and our bodies cant fight it.
AIDS and stuff have become, i dont really know how to explain it but, normal?
Thier still finding a cure but its just "been around the block".
were are Swine Flue is the new creepy kid that you dont know how to handle and is killing people.
Im just worried cause if it get over here (some people here are beign tested already), im fucked if i catch it.
My immune system is shit, thats why i try to wash my hands as much as possible and im almost constantly sick an in hospital.
Its just ~scray.

Re: The H1N1 influenza
Um actually SARS isn't anywhere near as bad as swine flu is shaping up to be. SARS was nothing, honestly. Most of the deaths were children and babies, and they were in Asia, not western countries
Our bodies CAN fight it. The only reason people are so worried is because it's being publicised. It's no worse than some other strains of flu.
There's been what, 60 recorded cases? Yes, some deaths in mexico, but I'd say those would have been
a) in regional areas with poor hygene
b) contracted from direct and long term contact with infected animals or eating the meat of infected animals
c) not treated immediately
The people in america who have died of it (I know one or two in Texas did?) had it for weeks untreated before people knew what was really happening.
And, there IS a treatment, there's four main group of antibiotics being used to successfully treat it in America.
and AIDS isn't a pandemic. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome. It's a syndrome, not a virus. You CATCH HIV and have it develop into AIDS, but you cant catch AIDS itself. just, for political correctness' sake.
Also there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, jsyak.

And, there's no suspected cases in Perth, nicole, just over east.
Well on the News they said a few Perth people were tested cause they had recently spent sime time in Mexico.
And APPARENTLY, im not sure on this part, but they gave it to someone else who gave it to thier mate.
They havnt released the results yet.
Re: The H1N1 influenza
yeah...what's really worrying people about swine flu is that it's gotten to college students, twenty-year-olds, thirty-year-olds, etc. it's not just babies and the elderly who have weak immune systems...it's everyone.the missing piece. wrote:Um actually SARS isn't anywhere near as bad as swine flu is shaping up to be. sorry if that freaks anyone out. that wasn't my intention.
Re: The H1N1 influenza
There was a case (or more, I don't remember) fairly close to me. The high school where it was is closed for a week, all that jazz.
Everyone's joking about it around here. I have a cough right now, and I every time I do someone goes, "SWINE FLU OMG!" No one's taking it seriously, not even the teachers. I guess it'll probably technically become a pandemic, but it's not all that much worse than the actual influenza.

And are just denying that it could affect someone they know.

Re: The H1N1 influenza
It makes me really angry that anyone can say this is nothing. It is something. Just because it isn't your area doesn't mean it isn't a big deal.
Also, SARs wasn't nothing. In Canada it was a huge deal.
I don't care if only ten people die. That's ten people who lost their lives.

Re: The H1N1 influenza
Start the engines is right.
So children and babies dieing is okay to you?
Imagine if you and Marlee had a child, and it died from something like SARS. Would you just say "oh, it was just a child, who really cares about thoes?"
Think of the parents who lost this young before you say something like that.
It dosnt matter if your from Asia or a Western Country. Lives were still lost.

Re: The H1N1 influenza
Mikey...a lot of that's pretty contradictory to what I've heard.
The cases are in the thousands, less than 200 killed though.
And there are two antivirals (my biology teacher took the opportunity to teach us about viruses and bacteria >.>) that can work in the first forty-eight hours. However, they're really harsh on the body and expensive. That said, it's not a death sentence if you don't get them >.>
Also, it's not from eating pigs. This is a human strain - it's all human to human now. As long as you, y'know cook the pig - you aren't in danger.

Re: The H1N1 influenza
What? Why would you say something like that?
I never said that it's less emotionally damaging that mainly children were affected and I did NOT imply that it mattered less based on race. The point I was making is that it's less MEDICALLY SERIOUS.
I was making a point that in Asia their medical systems and the hygene level available to the general populous are, in my experience (and also my fathers, he travelled to Vietnam when SARS was first becoming an issue) substandard compared to that in most of Western society. It's to do with money and with population density. It's a medical and socio-economic point. I said NOTHING about people.
You took that completely out of context and I really don't like what you just implied, to be honest.
