School Writing Competition
So my school is having one.
It's done in year brackets, so I'm in the 11/12 one.
I don't know who else is going to enter, but I think I might.
The sucky thing is though, there is no prize. Which is mildly disappointing. Like you get your name engraved on some trophy thing, that I have never seen or heard of so obv. it's a big deal And apparently it gets printed in the school magazine at the end of the year, but I'm on the comittee for that anyway so I can have better pieces of writing than that in it.
The topic is 'belonging' because this is the Area of Study topic for year 12 so they use it as kinda like extra study. I have a story I wrote for an assessment task at the end of last year that I think I might re-write, it's called The Bird Lady, and I think it was a good concept, but I could have done a better job except I rushed it all at the last minute (you know doing assignments the night before- don't act like you haven't all done it!)
Perhaps I shall leave you all with an exerpt, and maybe after I make it less shitty I will post it.
(Please excuse the shity grammar that is in bits of it, I get lazy when I don't give a fuck about assignments :/ )
"I still remember running there after school with Billy and Sarah, and pressing our faces against the glass, just to see the perfectly sculpted icing masterpieces.
Rows of perfect cupcakes lined the windowsill, standing contentedly their neat icing in all the colours of the rainbow glistened proudly for the passersby. Looking further into the maze of pink sprinkles and mountainous piles of boiled lollies, our eyes peered wide and unblinking at the sheer awe and beauty of the interior. At 3:45 Mrs Flanagan came outside, producing lollies from inside her chocolate and cream stained apron pocket, in exchange for not smearing the glass with our delirious drool. Lemon for me. Strawberry for Sarah . Chocolate for Billy.
But that was years ago, before the accident. Now that shop sells pet food and all the labels are overly bright, plastic, purple. The only flavours are meat and vegetables, or tuna. The accident changed everything. We call it the accident, even though we know it wasn’t. That’s why Mrs Flanagan’s Sweet Shop closed; because of ‘the accident’.
It was her husband who changed everything. Mr Flanagan. He’s dead now. "

Is it your birthday tomorrow Jacqui???
And thanks Jack/Rita. It's a tad shitty atm, but if I end up fixing it up properly I may post it.

Re: School Writing Competition
I really like the sound of this
It seems so sinister. I'm already wondering what could have happened. You definitely have to post more
